Edgar

Source: http://2.bp.blogspot.com
After he feels the pain in his neck and the odd sensations, followed by seeing Claude by the closed door, why doesn't Edgar figure out what Claude had done?
We have another allusion to The Jungle Book when we find out that Nathoo is Mowgli's human name. Is there a larger connection between the two stories?
What is so significant about Edgar telling his father that he loved him?

Edgar still doesn't register that Claude has stabbed him. He thinks that something fell and hit him on the head. He is entirely focused on saving the records. Edgar telling his father that he loves him is significant because he says it aloud... He speaks, and his dialogue has quotation marks.

Edgar doesn't think that Claude would do that, he is so concerned with getting the records out safely he doesn't really process what may have happened. Edgar is finally able to say he loves his father out loud, he uses his voice. He has never been able to speak before, so him saying it now is quite remarkable.

Edgar doesn't notice that Claude has stabbed him with the syringe because he is so worried about saving his father's legacy. He had no thought that Claude would even hide the bottle in the file cabinet. He is more concerned about remembering his father and all that he did.

I find that the book is greatly related to The Jungle Book. Mowgli is known as the boy who is raised by wolves, and Edgar is similarly raised by his dogs. Edgar is so closely related to Mowgli because he is with his dogs everyday and they teach him lessons as much as he teaches them. Because of his speech impairment, he is some what distanced from people and connects with his dogs.

Edgar said he loves his father out loud. It is pretty impressive from a mute child. Edgar didnt understand that he was stabbed because he was focused on the records and never expected that from anyone.

It is extraordinary that Edgar tells his father he loves him because Edgar can't speak because he is mute due to his autism.

Edgar doesn't realize he's been injected with the syringe because he's to focused on retrieving the files, and wasn't expecting to get poisoned in a burning barn.
