In the Rain

Source: http://fc08.deviantart.net
Edgar keeps looking back at the barn and touching things to the barn, getting a splinter and a cut on his finger. Why does he do this?
Is the image his father or is he just imagining things?
It is implied that Claude had a hand in his father's death. Do you think this could be true? What leads you to your answer?
This section is called "Three Griefs." What are the three griefs?
Claude has proposed to Trudy. How will that change things for Edgar if she accepts?

I think Edgar keeps touching things on the barn to see if he can feel because he thinks he's dreaming. People say things like pinch me I must be dreaming. Perhaps people think the pain would wake them. Edgar's cut and splinter support the idea that he is awake.
It took me a while to understand more of what Claude's dirty secret was, and I still don't know. But while Edgar is in the tree perhaps he smiles back at Claude because he sees the trouble Claude is having at smiling back. Edgar sees the worry in Claude that perhaps Edgar knows his secret. This is also why Claude is shaken; because he's scared Edgar knows his secret.

Edgar is feeling his way toward the barn because he think its a dream, and the image of his father is a imagination.

Edgar looks at the barn and brings pain upon himself as to tell himself this is real. He wants to believe he isn't dreaming and that the figure in the rain really is his father talking with him. I think that the image really is his father. Edgar is a unique kid and the figure of his father even gives him some answers he's looking for.
I do think Claude killed Gar because his death was so unexplained and Claude swoops in very quickly like he knew this was all going to happen.

I think by looking at the barn and touching things is a way Edgar is mourning. He thinks he sees his father in the rain but isn’t sure. I think that while he has this image he is trying to remember memories they had or times together with his father. On the other hand, like Elle said, Edgar could be hurting himself to keep him in check with reality.

Edgar keeps touching the barn because he wants to figure out if he is dreaming or not. I think that the image of his father is real as well as somewhat creepy. In this chapter Edgar begins to realize that Uncle Claude is up to something and not just trying to marry Trudy, but something worse. The problem is, is that Edgar is the only witness, and to boot, he can't talk verbally so people will have a hard time believing him when he does figure out what is going on.

Edgar keeps touching things because he wants to make sure that this is really happening, he wants to know if he’s dreaming or not. So when he touches the barn and gets a splinter he feels the pain of it, normally you don’t really feel things in dreams, it is his way of making sure he’s not dreaming all of this up. I believe in ghosts and spirits, so the image of Edgar’s father could be real. Claude could have played a part is Gar’s death, he really isn’t a sweet lovable guy, Claude definitely has a dark side.

Edgar is looking back at the barn and touching things to keep his head out of the clouds. He thinks the image of his father is an imagination more or less a dream that he can’t wake up from. Looking at the barn and touching things in the barn remind him that he’s not in a dream and it was real.

I do believe that Claude played a part in Gar’s death. Claude was jealous of the life Gar had built for himself, after all Gar had a family, a house, and a steady business while Claude had nothing to his name.
