Why do you think Claude moved the bottle? Why do you think he didn't hide it so well when he re-hid it?
Edgar is very particular just his father. He knows there will be consciences if he makes a bad choice so he is very particular. Claude moved the bottle to show Edgar that he sensed that he was there, he was sending subliminal messages. Maybe he wanted Edgar to find it and then if Edgar moved it he could would know for sure that Edgar was now around the house. Edgar tries to be very very careful to avoid any detection.
