Why is Edgar taking so long to go home? Why is he so intent on connecting with Forte?
Edgar believes strongly in chance, or fate...but what about Ida Paine? She can see the future, so is chance not actually chance but, instead, a set and planned future? Your thoughts...
What symbolism can be found in the relationship of Forte and Essay?

Edgar is taking so long due to thoughts, and the fact that he was thinking how he can forge a bond with Forte.

Fate, chances, and even foreseeing the future is all untrue because someone destiny isn't written in stone. Every decision someone make changes there fate. Even the smallest choice impact fate dramatically.

My thoughts are that there may be fixed points in the future that someone can't avoid no matter what, but there could be times where there is just plainly chance, whether it be a big or small impact on that person's life. Like deciding to turn left instead of right could be the most important decision of your life, you never know! A fortuneteller may tell you something about your future, but, ultimately, you can change your future. In the end, I believe you can decide your own destiny, no matter what someone tells you.

Hes taking so long because he's trying to make s bond with forte. This was important to him the first time forte came around. He thinks he actually has a chance of connecting with forte now that his dad isn't in the way and neither is Claude. Its just Edgar and forte.
I think that there's never a set thing that can happen in the future. There's always something that cab change your fate, destiny, whatever. One example of this is the butterfly effect. You could just eat a different breakfast then you had originally planned and already your future has been tampered with. Nothings set in stone in my opinion. So what Ida sees could just be an option of many others. Depending on how you start your day.

Edgar finally has his homecoming, where he crosses back onto his land with Essay. They have been born and raised on the land, and the land and the events that have taken place on the land have proved irresistible to Edgar. you can argue that fate and destiny are chanced, reflective of the beholder.

I beleive that there isn't a forsure set plan on your future and that anything can change that. Your life isn't just laid out for you, youre the one that can control or change anything.

Is chance not actually chance at all? But Fate? A set, planned out future? The future could be described as the aftermath of Destiny and Fate constantly contradicting each other into what our time. Destiny is by all means chosen by the individual, product of the human condition. while Fate is defined as events predetermined, unwavering universal guide. The future is the byproduct of the two, while at the present is Life. Our Life, what we have made for ourselves and experience it ways only we can be the victim of.

Edgar takes so long to go home because he is running from his fears, his sorrows, and his trouble. He is so intent on building a relationship with Forte because he finally understands him. Because he has lived out on his own for two months, Edgar can feel what Forte feels. He knows what it is like to not have a definite place to rest his head at night and he has no one to turn to.

The symbolism the is Forte and Essay is the two parts of Edgar's life. Forte is the part of him the runs thought the woods and ransacks cabins. He is the side without routine and without structure, but still strong. On the other side of the spectrum is Essay. This is the part of Edgar's life the he had most of his life. This is the side where he has structure, definite strength, and family. In the end, the two dogs end up together which shows the final balance of Edgar's life.
